Hackney Wick and Fish Island
Defined by the waterways that weave through it, Hackney Wick and Fish Island is home to some of London’s most distinctive creative communities alongside key strategic industrial land. The area has been transforming since the London 2012 Olympics, which delivered improved connectivity, amenities and public realm. That legacy has supported thousands of new homes while impacting local creative industry.
We are working hard to address this through the Creative Enterprise Zone and creative jobs are up 64 per cent since it was established.
The opportunity
Most main allocated sites are already in delivery. The next major project is Bow Goods Yard, a significant cross-borough development creating up to 5,000 new jobs through a rail freight, industrial and logistics campus alongside new leisure and amenity spaces. The scheme gained planning permission in October 2024.
There are also opportunities for infill development around existing schemes, and a growing pipeline of affordable and creative workspace projects is coming forward locally.
How we will work with partners
We will work closely with the public sector to set clear, consistent priorities for new development. We will continue to promote the active and expanding Creative Enterprise Zone. Working with partners, we will ensure local creative jobs are supported, new affordable workspaces and homes are delivered, and uses are diversified, all while maintaining the neighbourhood’s distinct character.
Creative workspace, industrial innovation and new homes. Let’s talk about what’s coming.
